Dr Erman Misirlisoy, PhD
Erman was born and raised in London, UK. Eager to understand why people do what they do, he studied psychology and neuroscience, and ran experiments to test human behavior. Aware that the brain is a complicated machine, he adopted a wide range of methods including brain imaging, brain stimulation, psychological measurements, and real-life behavioral analyses. He received his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London.
Throughout his PhD and post-doctoral research, Erman published academic papers related to self-control, free will, decision-making, neurological disorders, and sport. His research on high pressure decisions in elite sport attracted worldwide media coverage.
Erman uses his expertise to help businesses better understand their employees, customers, and outputs. In 2015, Erman joined the tech company Peak as Head of Science, to help develop what is now the world's top mobile brain training app. He led all scientific efforts to build games that challenge cognitive function for over 20 million users, and established research partnerships with universities around the world to understand the value of games in improving mental performance and health. He also worked with leading sports teams including the Northampton Saints rugby team to investigate mental skills training in sport and designed methods for tracking the cognitive effects of head injuries.
Erman has now started Thinkset, a project that provides bespoke research, advice, and content to those who need it. He helps businesses understand the thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors of their customers or employees, and he works with leaders and athletes to integrate principles from psychology and neuroscience in their training. Thinkset has already worked with a great mix of clients including Google and Virgin, and in previous advisory work, Erman has partnered with companies including Disney and Unilever. He continues to assist clients with his expertise, and regularly publishes articles for diverse audiences.
